Euphoria Kills Off Jacob Elordi's Nate Jacobs in Grisly Scene

Euphoria aired what fans are calling the most horrifying death of the entire series, as Jacob Elordi's character Nate Jacobs met a grisly end in a buried alive scene. The penultimate episode of the HBO hit's third season saw the machiavellian character killed off in a casket with a rattlesnake.

Nate Jacobs' Downfall

Nate, who had undergone a personality change in the third season, found himself in deep trouble with loan sharks. After a construction company built on loan shark cash and a multi-level marketing scam, Nate had already suffered the loss of a toe, which was chopped off, reattached, and then chopped off again. The seventh episode saw him thrown into a shallow grave, with a small vent for air, giving his new wife Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) three days to raise the money to free him.

Cassie, with the help of Maddy (Alexa Demie), managed to circumvent the cash demands and hired the dodgy Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) to shoot the loan sharks. However, when Nate was dug up, they found a rattlesnake had burrowed into the vent and killed him.

Fan Reactions

The death scene sparked intense reactions on social media. One fan on X called it 'the most horrifying death of the entire series,' adding, 'The image of him inside the coffin next to that snake will be etched in my mind forever.' Another viewer said he 'died in the worst way imaginable.'

Jacob Elordi's Reflections

Elordi, whose fame is largely due to his role on Euphoria, described the death as a 'cool way to go' in a post-episode interview. He said, 'Nate is somebody who's made so many mistakes and so many dark choices, it's cool to see it all come to what it's come to.' He compared the experience inside the coffin to a sensory deprivation tank, saying it was 'quite peaceful.'

Showrunner Sam Levinson gave 'enormous credit' to Elordi for shooting the scene with a real snake. Elordi added, 'The snakes were rattling, which was really alarming when you're locked in a box. They had a boa constrictor that they put a fake rattler on the end of, and Sam was like "I'm gonna drop a snake on you".'

Bittersweet Farewell

Elordi expressed mixed feelings about leaving the show, saying, 'It's a bittersweet thing. This show is a massive part of not just my career, but my life. It's been amazing, and I'm so proud being a part of this.' Euphoria is available to stream on Sky, NOW, and HBO Max.
