The mystery of who attacked Joel Marshall (Max Murray) in EastEnders has been officially solved, with Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) confessing to the crime during Thursday's (August 13) episode. The confession came in dramatic scenes at McKlunkey's, where Amy admitted to DC Craig Ingram (Matthew James Bailey) that she was the one who struck Joel with a hammer, leaving him for dead.
The attack occurred last month, just 45 minutes after Joel had been tied up by a group of local teens, including Amy, who wanted to teach him a lesson for his actions against Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) and Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig). A police investigation was launched, with DC Craig Ingram leading the case. Ricky's (Frankie Day) bike lock was used to restrain Joel that night, prompting Amy to question Craig about the investigation, but he remained tight-lipped.
Other Suspects Ruled Out
Prior to Amy's confession, several other characters had been ruled out. Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) admitted she had freed Joel before the attack, while Denzel Danes (Jaden Ladega) and Avani revealed they were together when the assault took place, clearing them of suspicion. Amy, however, did not take the news of Denzel and Avani's romance well. After a clash with her father Jack (Scott Maslen), she turned to alcohol and ended up at McKlunkey's, where she encountered Craig again.
Craig offered his support, and Amy opened up about her feelings towards Joel, explaining that the plan that night was simply to 'teach him a lesson.' In a shocking turn, she admitted to being the attacker with the hammer.
Will Craig Report Amy?
The revelation left Craig reeling, and the question now is whether he will report Amy's confession to his superiors. Craig is already concerned that his decision to withhold video footage of the teens restraining Joel before the attack could backfire. If he follows procedure, Amy could face arrest and potentially prison. Alternatively, she might find a way out of the situation.
