Rind Wine Bar, a neighbourhood wine bar in Clapham, has received approval for its premises licence from Lambeth Council's Licensing Sub-Committee. The decision, made on Friday, August 7, allows the venue to operate permanently after running on temporary licences since opening earlier this summer.
The bar, located on Abbeville Road, is the second site for the team behind Rind Wine Bar, which first launched on Battersea Park Road in August 2025. The venue combines a wine bar, wine shop, and daytime café, offering curated wines alongside British and European cheeses, charcuterie, and small plates.
Community-Focused Vision
Chris Gay, who runs Rind, addressed the committee, emphasizing the establishment's role in the local community. "The vision for the premises is not to create a late-night drinking venue, it's to create a small, independent neighbourhood wine bar, delicatessen and bottle shop that complements Abbeville Road and gives local people somewhere to relax and to enjoy quality food and wine," he said. He added, "This is not intended to be a vertical drinking establishment or high-volume alcohol led, it's supposed to be for the community and for people that live around Abbeville Road."
The Clapham venue features nine tables inside and has capacity for up to 34 people. The licence includes conditions to maintain its neighbourhood character.
Licence Conditions and Hours
One condition prohibits patrons from using the external seating area or taking drinks outside after 9.30pm. Live music is restricted to indoors, with unamplified or genuinely low-level music permitted only from Thursday to Saturday and must finish by 9pm. Doors and windows must remain closed during entertainment, except for immediate access. Additionally, any off-sales of alcohol must be supplied in sealed containers and taken off the premises.
The venue's opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 11am to 10pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 11pm, and Sunday from 10am to 9pm. On and off-sales of alcohol are permitted Monday to Thursday from 11am to 9.30pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 10.30pm, and Sunday from 10am to 8.30pm.
Approval Announced
After deliberations, the committee's chair, Cllr David Bridson, announced that the application had been granted. This approval secures the wine bar's long-term operation, allowing it to serve the Clapham community with its curated wine and food offerings.
