Will Smith debuts shaved head for upcoming role in Supermax thriller
Will Smith shaves head for new movie Supermax

Will Smith debuted a completely shaved head while attending the E1 Series Monaco Grand Prix, but the 57-year-old actor later revealed the dramatic change was not a personal choice but for an upcoming film role.

New Look at Monaco Event

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star was at the all-electric boat-racing tournament on July 21, 2026, to support his team, Westbrook Racing by Visit Angola. He posed on a yacht with E1 founder Alejandro Agag and Prince Albert of Monaco, wearing a white T-shirt under a short-sleeved crochet cardigan with brown and black stripes, black drawstring trousers, frameless sunglasses, and a leather-strapped watch. His signature goatee remained.

Smith gave fans a preview of his bald look the day before, photographed on a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in a Westbrook Racing red polo shirt and black trousers. The team announced a title partnership with Visit Angola, Angola's national tourism authority, earlier in 2026.

Reason Behind the Shave

Taking to Instagram, Smith shared a video testing a microphone and wrote: 'Shaved my head for my next movie,' joking he was 'tryna get some Monaco sun on it.' The film is the action-thriller Supermax for Amazon MGM Studios. It follows two FBI agents—including Smith as a character named Rex—investigating a murder inside the world's most secure prison. A release date has not been announced.

Supermax will be Smith's first film since 2024's Bad Boys: Ride or Die, his first major movie after slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.

Connection to Alopecia

During the Oscars, Rock made an unscripted joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her shaved head, which is due to alopecia. Jada first revealed her alopecia in 2018, calling the sudden hair loss 'terrifying.' She has documented her experience in her memoir Worthy, on Red Table Talk, and on social media.

Other Celebrity Hair Changes

John Cena also debuted a shaved head in early July 2026, revealing he underwent a second hair transplant. The 49-year-old former wrestler-turned-actor announced 'round 2 of FUE Treatment' on Facebook, showing his bald look before the procedure. FUE, or Follicular Unit Excision, is a minimally invasive hair transplant where individual follicles are extracted from a donor area and implanted into balding areas.
