Troll 2 Hits Netflix: Sequel to 103 Million-View Hit Now Streaming
Troll 2 sequel now streaming on Netflix

The highly anticipated sequel to one of Netflix's biggest non-English language hits has finally arrived. 'Troll 2' began streaming on the platform today, 1st December 2025, inviting subscribers back into a world of ancient Nordic monsters and high-stakes adventure.

Building on a Record-Breaking Original

The original 'Troll' film, released in December 2022, became a phenomenal success for the streaming giant. It follows palaeontologist Nora Tidemann, played by Ine Marie Wilmann, who races to prevent disaster after an explosion awakens an ancient troll in the Norwegian mountains. The film, which also features Ameli Olving Sælevik as a younger Nora, was shot on location across Norway.

Its impact was undeniable. 'Troll' amassed over 103 million views, securing its place as Netflix's most-watched non-English language movie at the time. It dominated the top 10 charts in 93 countries, hitting the number one spot in Norway, the UK, and the US. Critics praised it, with the film earning an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

A New Threat Awakens in Troll 2

The sequel, teased by a trailer in July, raises the stakes considerably. Once again drawing from Norwegian folklore, the plot centres on a railway construction project through the Dovre Mountains. This activity disturbs a slumbering giant, unleashing it after a millennium of captivity.

As the colossal creature rampages, the Norwegian government has no choice but to call upon the expertise of Professor Tidemann. She reunites with her father, Gard B. Eidsvold, and her team for their most dangerous mission yet: a desperate race against time to save Oslo from total destruction.

The creative team from the first film has returned to ensure continuity. 'Troll 2' is written by Espen Aukan and directed by Roar Uthaug, with Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud of Motion Blur producing. Director Uthaug expressed his pride in the global connection audiences made with the first film and promised an expanded scope for the sequel.

Can the Sequel Match Its Predecessor?

The production scale of 'Troll 2' is unprecedented, being labelled the largest film production ever in the Nordic countries. Returning cast members include Kim Falck and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen as Andreas and Captain Kris, with Sara Khorami joining as new character Marion.

The original film blended spectacular visuals with engaging mythology, earning comments like "a great piece of unassuming monster mayhem" from critics. While some viewers desired more character depth, the overall consensus was that it was thrilling, entertaining, and well worth watching.

Now, all eyes are on whether 'Troll 2' can capture the same magic and viewership numbers. With a bigger threat, a larger production, and the original team at the helm, Netflix is undoubtedly hoping this sequel becomes another global sensation. 'Troll 2' is available to stream now on Netflix.
