London's most anticipated festive cinema experience has returned, transforming a Victorian warehouse into a breathtaking winter wonderland that goes far beyond a simple film screening.
A West End-Style Production
From the moment you step inside the new venue at 49 Tanner Street, London Bridge, it's clear this isn't an ordinary trip to the movies. The experience begins in the vibrant Cabaret Room, where live musicians and acrobats perform while guests enjoy mulled wine and snacks.
The pre-show entertainment feels like a spectacular event in itself, with West End-level singers performing classic Christmas hits. Staff weave between cabaret-style tables, creating an atmosphere so engaging that many feel the ticket price is justified before the main feature even begins.
Stepping Into An Enchanted Forest
Through a small, unassuming door lies a completely different world. Visitors suddenly find themselves transported into a full Enchanted Forest complete with towering pine trees, cool air, and an astonishing 20 tonnes of real bark underfoot.
The transition feels almost cinematic itself - the space is quiet, immersive, and completely surreal. The authentic scent of wood and the soft crunch of the forest floor make it feel like you've stepped straight out of London and into a winter fairy-tale.
Hidden within this magical forest, guests can discover a cosy cabin with a warming fireplace and themed bars tucked between the trees, creating perfect pockets of festive calm away from any crowds.
The Cosy Cinema Experience
Before the film begins, staff lead everyone in a joyful carol-singing procession into the Cosy Forest Cinema. This retro-style theatre, surrounded by pine trees and soft lighting, provides the perfect setting for Christmas classics.
In a truly magical touch, it actually snows before every screening, adding to the winter wonderland atmosphere. The show opens with the 'White Christmas' music video, perfectly setting the tone for films like Elf, Love Actually, The Holiday, The Grinch, and the reporter's choice, Home Alone.
This year's Christmas at Backyard Cinema runs from 26 November to 31 December, with the company describing this as their most central London location yet. With five screenings daily at 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm, including family-friendly matinees, the experience caters to everyone from date nights to festive work socials.
Every ticket includes approximately an hour of live entertainment before the movie begins, creating a unique hybrid of theatre and cinema that boldly reinvents what a Christmas film screening can be.
By the time the credits roll, it becomes evident that this isn't merely a cinema trip but a full theatrical journey through Christmas magic. It stands as one of London's most enchanting festive experiences this year.
Adult tickets start from £26.50, while child tickets are from £17.50. The venue is easily accessible at 49 Tanner Street, London Bridge, SE1 3PL.
