Lewis Burton Denounces 'False Accusations' in Caroline Flack Documentary
Lewis Burton speaks out against Caroline Flack documentary

Lewis Burton, the former boyfriend of television presenter Caroline Flack, has publicly condemned what he describes as 'false accusations' made against him in a new documentary about her life and death.

The Documentary and Family Involvement

The documentary, titled Caroline Flack: Search For The Truth, was released on Disney+ on November 10, 2025. The programme examines the final 24 hours of the Love Island presenter's life before her tragic death at age 40.

Flack's mother, Christine Flack, participated in the documentary with hopes it would 'set the record straight' about her daughter's death. The film includes never-before-heard voice notes and WhatsApp messages that reveal Flack's personal account of events leading to her passing.

Burton's Public Response

Burton, who was 33 at the time of Flack's death and had been dating her, broke his silence through an emotional Instagram statement. 'Out of respect, I've chosen to remain silent,' he wrote. 'However, the false accusations and online abuse directed toward me and my family has gone too far.'

The tennis professional continued: 'I had hoped it would never come to this, but now I have no choice but to clarify the situation and share the truth.' Burton has not yet specified what these 'false accusations' involve or how he plans to present his version of events.

Production Team's Perspective

According to series producer Sophie Clayton-Payne, speaking to The Mirror, Burton was approached multiple times to participate in the documentary but declined both on-camera and off-record interviews.

'We contacted Lewis right from the beginning,' Clayton-Payne explained. 'We said "We'd love to talk to you off-record just for research purposes [to] understand your perspective on everything." We also invited him to take part in the series, on camera. He declined to take part.'

The Incident That Sparked Media Scrutiny

The documentary revisits the events of December 12, 2019, when Flack struck Burton with a phone while he slept after discovering messages from another woman. The alcohol-fuelled incident escalated with Flack destroying their bedroom, throwing heavy objects, grabbing broken glass, and self-harming in front of him.

This domestic disturbance led to Flack being charged with assault by beating, triggering one of the most intensely followed celebrity legal cases in recent memory. The media storm surrounding the case ultimately preceded her death by suicide on February 15, 2020.

Life After Flack's Tragedy

Five months after Flack's passing in July 2020, Burton confirmed his relationship with social media influencer Lottie Tomlinson, the 27-year-old sister of One Direction's Louis Tomlinson. The couple met when Tomlinson was 21 and Burton was 28.

Their relationship has since progressed with the couple welcoming two children: three-year-old Lucky and newborn Flossie, born in January 2025. They publicly announced their first pregnancy in February 2022.

The documentary continues to generate discussion about media responsibility, mental health, and the lasting impact of high-profile personal tragedies on those left behind.
