The recent wedding ceremony between former glamour model Katie Price and businessman Lee Andrews in Dubai may not hold any legal weight, according to new revelations about the nature of their lavish celebration.
A Purely Symbolic Ceremony
The celebrant who officiated the ceremony has confirmed that the event was purely symbolic rather than legally binding. Darryl Rees, a Swansea-born part-time DJ and MC who has been conducting weddings in Dubai for five years, explained the situation to The Daily Mail.
'I'm a showman, you have to go to court to have it legalised,' Rees stated, clarifying that most British couples who marry in Dubai typically handle the legal requirements separately, either in a Dubai court or back in a UK register office, either before or after their picturesque ceremony.
Whirlwind Romance
The revelation adds another layer of complexity to a romance that has unfolded at remarkable speed. It is believed that Katie met Lee just one week before their wedding ceremony, with even her closest friends and family reportedly stunned by how quickly their relationship escalated.
Within days of her arrival in Dubai, Lee proposed with a large diamond ring and rose petals spelling out 'Will you marry me?' Katie confirmed the engagement on social media, sharing images that showed Lee already sporting a 'Katie' tattoo on his hand.
Declaring 'Manifesting does work,' she gushed about being 'swept off [her] feet' and compared her new partner to Richard Gere. Just two days later, the couple exchanged vows in what Katie described as 'a wedding at first sight.'
Family Concerns and Previous Relationships
Behind the scenes, however, the mood appears far less celebratory. Friends close to Katie have claimed they were left 'dumbstruck' by the news, with sources indicating that her family were completely unaware she was planning to get married.
'Katie's family are blindsided over the marriage, they almost don't accept that it's real,' a source told Metro. 'They've never met or spoken to Lee and are concerned over how he portrays himself online and whether he is who he says he is.'
The wedding has also reportedly come as a shock to her ex-boyfriend, Married At First Sight star JJ Slater, with the couple having ended their two-year relationship just weeks earlier. Sources claim that Katie had begun doubting whether JJ was 'husband material' before her sudden romance with Lee.
Legal Uncertainty
If legally recognised, this would be Katie Price's fourth marriage, following her previous unions with Peter Andre, Alex Reid, and Kieran Hayler. For Lee Andrews, this represents Katie's ninth engagement.
At present, it remains unclear whether Katie and Lee completed the necessary legal paperwork either in Dubai or back in the UK. Unless they quietly handled these requirements, their sun-soaked ceremony may amount to little more than an elaborate photo opportunity.
The situation leaves friends, family, and the public wondering about the couple's long-term plans and whether their relationship will be formally recognised under British or Emirati law.
