Hermione Norris Addresses Cold Feet Reunion Speculation
Rumors about revivals of beloved 1990s and 2000s television series continue to circulate, with the hit comedy drama Cold Feet frequently at the center of such talk. Actress Hermione Norris, who portrayed Karen Marsden in the show, has now provided clarity on the situation, dismissing recent whispers of a potential reunion.
No Immediate Plans for a Cold Feet Revival
In an exclusive interview with Metro, the 59-year-old star, also known for her role in Spooks, revealed that while the original cast remains in close contact, there are no concrete plans for a reboot in the near future. "We're all in a WhatsApp group," Norris explained. "Fay [Ripley], I check in with quite a bit. All of us check in, really." She addressed the persistent online speculation, noting, "There is often – you know, at the moment there seems to be something [online] that there is going to be a revisit of it. It's kind of, 'Is this real? What's going on?!' Because we would be the last people to ever know about it."
Despite the uncertainty, Norris emphasized that the cast maintains strong personal bonds. "I also saw Fay at a friend of ours' wedding," she shared, referencing a producer from the original series. "So yeah, we're in each other's lives." When questioned about rumors of a possible Christmas special, she responded with surprise, exclaiming, "News to me! Nobody told me. That is when we'll connect. 'Have you seen this? Have you heard this?'"
Cold Feet's Legacy and Character Evolution
Cold Feet, which originally aired from 1997 to 2003, followed the intertwined lives of three couples navigating relationship challenges. The characters included:
- Adam Williams and Rachel Bradley, played by James Nesbitt and Helen Baxendale
- Pete and Jenny Gifford, portrayed by John Thomson and Fay Ripley
- Karen and David Marsden, with Hermione Norris and Robert Bathurst in the roles
As the series progressed, storylines evolved with divorces, new partnerships, and the introduction of additional characters. After a revival in 2016 that spanned nine series, creator Mike Bullen and the main cast confirmed the show was placed on an extended hiatus. However, hope persists among fans that a return might occur when the characters reach a new life stage suitable for fresh narratives.
Hermione Norris's Career Highlights and Personal Journey
Hermione Norris appeared in every episode of Cold Feet and earned a British Comedy Award nomination in 2001 for her performance. Her extensive career includes roles in BBC's spy drama Spooks as Ros Myers, three seasons of Kingdom, and guest appearances in Doctor Who. Most recently, she participated in the BBC Two series Pilgrimage: The Road to Holy Island, joining celebrities like Ashley Banjo and Patsy Kensit on a spiritual journey across North East England.
Reflecting on her decision to join the pilgrimage, Norris cited a "time of transition" following her mother's death 18 months prior and her children leaving home. "I just thought it would be an amazing thing to do and be a part of," she said. "It was also a time to ask, 'What do I really think? What do I really feel? What do I really believe?' You get to a certain age, and you think you know, but the opportunity to listen to other people and their experiences, I found that informative and interesting."
Regarding her religious views, Norris described herself as a believer in God, with faith being "key in [her] life," but clarified that the pilgrimage "reaffirmed" she does "not subscribe to any religious doctrine." She expressed being "put off" by judgments, stating, "I don't think that's what God is. I think God is love."
