Gemma Collins Makes a Dramatic Comeback to I'm A Celebrity South Africa

In a stunning reversal of her previous stance, reality television icon Gemma Collins has officially announced her return to the jungle for the second series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! South Africa. The GC, who infamously exited the show after just three days in 2015 under controversial circumstances, is set to join an all-star cast including Sir Mo Farah, Scarlett Moffatt, and Harry Redknapp, aiming for a long-awaited redemption arc.

A Journey from Infamy to Redemption

At a special screening event held at London's Ham Yard Hotel, where the cast was unveiled, Collins strutted onto the stage in full leopard print, declaring her comeback as 'one million per cent' the best decision of her life. She reflected on her initial stint, marked by a premature departure and unfounded malaria claims, stating, 'I spent my whole life with this black cloud hanging over my head. I'm older now, and I knew I had to go back to confront that regret.'

Despite initial fears that nearly led her to back out at Heathrow Airport, Collins emphasized her determination to face the challenges head-on. 'I went in strong and, to be honest, I think I shut it down,' she asserted, hinting at a more resilient performance this time around.

Revealing the Real Gemma Collins

Known for her meme-worthy moments on shows like Celebrity Big Brother and Dancing on Ice, Collins insists that viewers will witness a different side of her in the South African camp. 'It's not the GC in there; it's Gemma Collins as you've never seen her before,' she revealed. 'You'll see me vulnerable, thinking I'm Lara Croft, but I'm delighted with the experience and the camaraderie we shared.'

However, teasers from the series, filmed last year, suggest that her time won't be without drama. Hosts Ant and Dec have teased 'arguments we probably haven't seen in Australia for a while,' with Collins at the center of at least one fiery exchange, snapping at a campmate, 'I ain't no joke, darling.'

Overcoming Trials and Personal Growth

Collins recounted facing not only the typical jungle trials but also mundane camp duties, such as copious washing up with Adam Thomas. 'I've got two dishwashers at home, but it really grounds you again,' she admitted. 'It breaks you in ways you've never been broken before, leaving me broken to within an inch of my life during some trials.'

Despite the hardships, she credits the experience with boosting her self-esteem and personal growth. 'It helped my self-esteem a million percent and made me realize that when you think you can't, you absolutely can,' Collins shared. 'I've not got this dark cloud hanging over my head anymore. No one can say nothing about me because I've done it – redemption.'
