Emmerdale Stars Initially Dismissed Graham Foster Resurrection Rumors as Too Bizarre

In a surprising twist, Emmerdale icons Zoe Henry and Mark Charnock have confessed they initially brushed off rumors about the resurrection of supervillain Graham Foster, played by Andrew Scarborough, deeming the plotline too far-fetched for the long-running soap opera. However, the storyline has since come to fruition, leaving both actors and audiences stunned.

Actors Heard Rumors but Dismissed Them Due to Character's Death

Zoe Henry, who portrays Rhona Goskirk on the show, recently disclosed in an interview that she and Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, had both caught wind of the rumor but quickly dismissed it. "It was a big secret!" Henry exclaimed. "But rather bizarrely, Mark and I had both heard a rumor but both dismissed it because 'he's SO dead! I mean, he's SO dead! He was SO blue, he's dead!'" Indeed, Graham Foster was famously killed onscreen by Rhona's abusive ex-husband, Pierce Harris, portrayed by Jonathan Wrather, in a brutal attack involving a vehicle and a torch, making survival seem impossible.

Graham Foster's Return Explained Through SAS Training and Revenge Plot

Despite the apparent finality of his death, Emmerdale writers revealed earlier this year that Graham faked his demise using his SAS training to survive the assault. He has now returned to the village after years in hiding, plotting revenge against his ex-wife, Kim Tate, played by Claire King, for her attempts to have him killed. His comeback mission includes breaking Kim's control over his former protégé, Joe Tate, portrayed by Ned Porteous, and rekindling his romance with Rhona, who is now married to Marlon.

Behind-the-Scenes Reaction and Audience Surprise

Henry recalled the awkward moment when she and Charnock were called into a meeting about the plot. "We had a conversation and Mark said: 'Have you heard...?' and I said, 'Yeah I have heard!' Anyway, we ended up getting called up for a meeting and on the way up, Mark went: 'It's happening, isn't it?' I asked: 'What do we say? Do we say that we've heard the rumor? This is really awkward'," she shared. They confessed their knowledge to producer Laura Shaw, who was shocked that the secret had leaked, but they managed to keep it from the audience, leading to a dramatic reveal. "That's the best kind of reveal, when the audience goes: 'Whaat!' Which is kind of what we did," Henry added.

Current Love Triangle and Future Conflicts

Graham's return has sparked a tense love triangle, with Rhona torn between her dependable husband, Marlon, and the dangerous, intense Graham. Recent episodes have escalated the drama, as Graham's decision to cancel a hit on a character named Jodie Ramsey backfires, leading to him being stabbed. In a poignant scene, Rhona tends to Graham's wounds, only for Marlon to arrive and confront her about her feelings. Rhona's silence in response to Marlon's question about whether she still loves Graham speaks volumes, hinting at unresolved emotions.

Zoe Henry's Insight into Rhona's Emotional Struggle

While Henry remains tight-lipped about future plot developments, she offered insight into Rhona's inner turmoil. "I think it's lip service, really. She is saying all the right things and I wonder if it's a bid to try and convince herself that there are no feelings – and of course there are. It was severed – there was no falling out of love, there was no affair or anything. It just ended very suddenly," she explained. "The minute she sees Graham and when she accepts that he's actually alive and there, it's a deep dive back into where she was six years ago." This emotional complexity sets the stage for further conflicts and heartbreak in the series.
