Christmas Day on Coronation Street delivered explosive drama as Evelyn Plummer made a shocking personal confession, while the terrifying truth behind Carla Connor's disappearance began to surface.
A Festive Kidnapping Unravels
Lisa Swain, played by Vicky Myers, spent December 25th with wife Becky Swain, portrayed by Amy Cudden, but her thoughts remained firmly with ex-partner Carla Connor. Lisa believed Carla was enjoying a solo holiday in Lanzarote following their painful breakup, which was triggered by Becky's unexpected return earlier this year.
The reality was far more sinister. Carla, played by Alison King, had actually been kidnapped by Becky, who was determined to win back her family at any cost. Becky tied Carla up in a flat closet, fabricating the Lanzarote story to cover her tracks.
Secret Messages and Knife-Point Threats
The lie began to crumble when Roy Cropper, portrayed by David Neilson, texted Lisa to reveal Carla had never checked into her hotel. In a desperate attempt to maintain her story, Becky rushed to the flat where she held Carla captive.
When Carla refused to record a reassuring voice note for Lisa, Becky threatened her with a knife. The situation escalated when Betsy Swain, played by Sydney Martin, called Carla's hidden phone. Under duress, Carla told Betsy she had checked into a different hotel called the Rhubarb Hill.
This was a clever attempt to send a covert message, as Rhubarb and Hill were two words mumbled by the assaulted DI Costello, played by Daon Broni. Unfortunately, Betsy failed to decipher the hidden clue.
Evelyn's Stunning Bombshell
Back at Number 6, Becky found Roy and Evelyn Plummer, played by Maureen Lipman, with Betsy sharing news of the call with Carla. While the news lifted Lisa's spirits, Evelyn remained deeply sceptical.
She pointed out that Carla answering Betsy's call, but not Lisa's, confirmed the detective's fears that Carla was deliberately ignoring her. When Lisa pressed Evelyn to explain what she meant, the response left everyone stunned.
"Maybe she's just not cut out to be a lesbian," Evelyn declared. Before the shocked Swains could process this, Evelyn dropped an even bigger revelation about her own past: "A lot of people aren't. I know I wasn't!"
While Evelyn's unexpected confession provided darkly comic entertainment for viewers, it offered little comfort to Lisa, who remains tormented by Carla's unexplained absence and the strange circumstances surrounding it.
With Carla still held captive and Lisa unaware of the horrifying truth, the question remains whether Lisa will piece together the clues in time to save her former lover, or if Becky's desperate scheme will succeed in permanently removing Carla from their lives.
