The heart of London's West End was bathed in festive brilliance as stars from the hit show The Celebrity Traitors officially launched the holiday season by switching on Covent Garden's magnificent 2025 Christmas lights.
A Star-Studded Switch-On
On the evening of November 12, 2025, a host of iconic British celebrities gathered on the iconic Market Building balcony for the grand ceremony. Mission: Impossible actress Hayley Atwell took centre stage to press the button, marking the official start of Christmas in the historic piazza.
She was joined by her fellow Celebrity Traitors alumni, including Celia Imrie and Sir Stephen Fry, in a surprise reunion for the delighted crowds below. The theatrical theme was further emphasised by the presence of other luminaries such as Dame Darcey Bussell, Sir Derek Jacobi, Matt Henry MBE, and Stephen Mangan.
A Dazzling Winter Wonderland
This year's festive installation is a breathtaking spectacle. The central Market Building now shimmers under 40 giant gold bells, each adorned with elegant bows. The display is further enhanced by 12 oversized red baubles and eight spinning mirror balls that catch the light.
At the heart of the piazza stands the area's famous 55-foot Christmas tree, a proud centrepiece to the celebrations. The magic doesn't stop there; a stunning 150,000 LED lights cascade through the Seven Dials and glow brightly above the colourful Neal's Yard, transforming the entire district into a radiant winter paradise.
The Start of Festive Celebrations
This spectacular light switch-on marks the beginning of a seven-week programme of festive entertainment in Covent Garden. Visitors can look forward to a packed schedule featuring live performances and exclusive pop-up events, ensuring the area remains a hub of holiday cheer throughout the season.
The event successfully blended the area's rich theatrical heritage with modern celebrity culture, creating a truly memorable night that officially ushered in the festive period for Londoners and visitors alike.
