Yasmin, a 32-year-old Physician Associate from London, has disclosed that she spent approximately 20 years concealing her vitiligo, a skin condition that at its worst prevented her from opening the door to the postman without makeup. The revelation came during an emotionally raw moment on Netflix's Love Is Blind UK, which has returned for a new series.
Yasmin's Childhood Discovery and Long-Term Concealment
Yasmin first discovered she had vitiligo when she was eight years old. Vitiligo is a long-term condition that causes patches of skin to lose their pigmentation. From that point, she made it her mission to keep the condition hidden from almost everyone in her life.
During a pod session on the show, Yasmin told her date: "I've got pigmentation." She elaborated: "It really rocked my self-confidence for a very long time. And I always used to just cover it with make-up, basically for like 20 years."
The anxiety surrounding her condition became so consuming that she would never allow anyone to see her without makeup. According to Yasmin, barely anyone except close friends knew about her vitiligo. She admitted: "I couldn't open the door to the postman if I didn't have it covered up."
Background and Personal Life
Yasmin grew up in a strict religious household with a Ghanaian father and an Egyptian-Lebanese mother. She has never had an official boyfriend. She is hoping that the pods on the show will offer her a genuine connection built on honesty rather than appearances.
In recent years, Yasmin has moved away from hiding her vitiligo and has embraced it publicly and with pride. Last year, she announced on Instagram that she had become a finalist for Miss Universe Great Britain, a milestone she described as unimaginable to her younger self.
"It's an honour to take part in such a positive and empowering programme," she wrote, "and something that the Yasmin I knew five years ago, who still hid behind layers of camouflage makeup, would NEVER have dreamed of doing."
