Kids' Quiz: Caiman Teeth and Cat Purrs – Family Fun

How Many Teeth Do Caiman Have?

Caiman, close relatives of alligators and crocodiles, typically have between 60 and 80 teeth at any one time. Unlike humans, they continuously replace lost teeth throughout their lives, shedding and regrowing them many times. This adaptation helps them maintain a full set for catching and holding prey.

What Makes Cats Purr?

Cats purr through rapid contractions of their laryngeal muscles, which cause the vocal cords to separate and come together, creating a buzzing sound. This mechanism occurs at a frequency of 25 to 150 Hertz, which is associated with healing and soothing effects. Cats often purr when content, but also when stressed or in pain, suggesting it may serve as a self-soothing behavior.
