EastEnders fans are in for a week of heartbreak and rage as Suki Panesar-Unwin (Balvinder Sopal) and Eve Panesar-Unwin (Heather Peace) see their foster daughter Ria Virdi (Aaria Sharma) injured at a community party, triggering a legal confrontation and reigniting fears of a custody battle.
Suki and Eve's Journey to Foster Care
The couple has endured a long and arduous path toward building a family. When Suki discovered her step-granddaughter Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) was pregnant, her desire to raise the baby clouded her judgment, leading her to act heinously to convince Avani to continue the pregnancy, all so Suki and Eve could raise the child. Eve was initially hesitant but eventually agreed, believing Avani was happy with the arrangement. However, when Avani confessed she wanted a termination, Eve supported her through the process, and Avani later had the termination.
When Avani's parents, Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) and Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara), learned what had happened, the family imploded, and Suki and Eve ended up living separately. They were reunited after Eve was subjected to a grotesque homophobic attack, reaffirming their love, and Eve declared she was fully onboard with the baby idea and wanted to consider adoption.
Obstacles and Acceptance
The road to adoption was fraught with obstacles. Eve's vitriolic mother Norma (Jessica Turner) tried to sabotage their plans. Ravi and Priya's family collapsed after it was revealed he had been running a drug ring, all in front of their social worker. Suki also clashed with her son Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) upon learning he was expecting a baby with Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine).
The biggest hurdle came when the final adoption panel meeting fell on the anniversary of Jags Panesar's (Amar Adatia) death, triggering an emotional clash between Suki and Vinny. Suki fled the meeting, overwhelmed with memories of Jags, and Eve ended up drunkenly and violently confronting Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington), who later used that incident to blackmail them. Despite these setbacks, the panel accepted Suki and Eve, and they welcomed Ria Virdi into their home, also resolving their feud with Nicola after discovering damning evidence against her.
Domestic Difficulties and New Threats
Their problems soon became domestic rather than dramatic. Bonding with Ria proved difficult, especially for Eve, but with Nicola's help, Eve formed a strong connection with Ria after Ria's biological mother failed to show up for her birthday party. However, peace never lasts long in soap operas.
Next week, fresh tension arises when Suki learns that Ria's birth mother could still seek custody, potentially removing Ria from their care. This leads Suki to turn her wrath on Vinny, clashing with him again over Penny and the baby. Later in the week, the community enjoys Kat and Alfie Moon's (Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie) community party, but the Square descends into chaos, and a community officer shuts it down. In the commotion, Ria is injured.
Legal Threats and Uncertain Future
With the potential custody battle weighing heavily on her and the injury threatening their chances, Suki goes nuclear and threatens legal action against the Moons, causing Kat to storm away. With Suki spewing venom and Ria's mother potentially coming to reclaim her daughter, their family's future hangs in the balance. The upcoming episodes promise to deliver high drama as Suki and Eve fight to keep their family intact.
