Josh Widdicombe Favourite to Host Strictly Come Dancing

Comedian Josh Widdicombe has emerged as a leading contender to become one of the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing, following the departure of long-time presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. The 43-year-old comedian reportedly impressed BBC bosses with his sharp wit and family-friendly appeal during a secret audition.

Audition Success

A source revealed to The Sun that Widdicombe’s audition was outstanding. “Josh blew the producers away with his dead-pan, witty banter. He is family friendly, having helmed several shows now, and loves Strictly,” the insider said. Producers believe he is the ideal candidate to lead the show into a new era, especially after recent scandals that have affected the program.

First Male Host Since Bruce Forsyth

If selected, Widdicombe would become the first male host since the late Sir Bruce Forsyth, who co-hosted the show from its revival in 2004 until 2013. Widdicombe previously participated in the 2024 Christmas special of Strictly, dancing a festive Charleston as a penguin with professional partner Karen Hauer. At the time, he joked about his fear of humiliation, but his performance was well-received.

Other names in the running include Rylan Clark, Emma Willis, Tom Allen, Alex Jones, Bradley Walsh, Alison Hammond, and La Voix. Recently, Zoe Ball and Angela Scanlon were also considered strong contenders. A decision on the new presenters is expected soon.

Widdicombe’s background in stand-up comedy and live television makes him a strong candidate. “After years as a stand-up, he can handle a live audience and is razor-sharp,” the source added. “He’s not a household name, yet, and so to step into Brucie’s shoes would be a stellar move for his career.”

Metro has contacted the BBC and representatives for Josh Widdicombe for comment.
