Stephen Libby's Career Leap from Traitors Victory to ITV Stardom
Stephen Libby, the 32-year-old winner of the BBC's hit show The Traitors, has traded in his vintage wardrobe for a glamorous new television role with ITV. After launching his career on the network, he is now set to beam in from the Academy Awards red carpet in Los Angeles, marking a significant step in his broadcasting journey.
From Cybersecurity to Showbiz: A Dramatic Shift
Libby, who previously worked as a cybersecurity expert, walked away with £47,875 as one half of the winning traitorous duo on The Traitors. Since then, he has been offering fashion insights on ITV's This Morning, presenting alongside hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley. In a recent move, ITV bosses have flown him to Los Angeles to cover the Oscars, where he will tour costumes nominated for awards and provide exclusive segments for the daytime show.
He expressed his excitement to The Sun, stating, 'I've just been having the best time working with the team at This Morning lately, from hosting fashion that I adore to now covering the buzz of the Oscars is just mind-blowing! I can't wait to show viewers what I've been getting up to here in LA.' Additionally, Libby will attend Elton John's AIDS Foundation Academy Award Party, one of several high-profile events capping off the film industry's biggest night.
Personal Reflections and Future Aspirations
In an interview with the BBC, Libby opened up about his career transition, saying, 'This is an opportunity to take a wee break and that really is all it is. I want to relax for a bit and give myself a bit of time. I would love to just make sure that in the future I'm doing something that genuinely makes me happy. I've never hated my job in cyber security, but it's not something that I feel passionate about.' He added that he hopes to pursue areas he is passionate about, acknowledging the rarity of such opportunities.
Regarding his Traitors prize money, Libby told Metro that he plans to treat his partner and parents to a holiday, saying, 'My partner and my parents have just been such a rock because our lives have been so strange for the last 12 months, almost, going through all emotions. I would love to give them a little holiday, a wee break and relax, because I've put them through the wringer.' At the time of the interview, he had not yet received the funds into his bank account.
Expanding Role on This Morning and Industry Buzz
Libby began hosting fashion segments on This Morning in February, shortly after his victory on The Traitors. His rapid rise in television has garnered attention, with fans eagerly following his journey from reality TV contestant to red carpet correspondent. The show airs weekdays on ITV at 10am, and Libby's involvement is expected to draw increased viewership during the Oscars coverage.
This development highlights the growing trend of reality TV stars transitioning into mainstream media roles, with Libby's expertise in fashion and charismatic presence making him a natural fit for ITV's programming. As he navigates the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, audiences can anticipate fresh insights and behind-the-scenes access from one of television's newest rising stars.
