Television viewers are in for a night of high-stakes competition, espionage, and true crime revelations this evening, with a major new gameshow leading the schedule.
A Battle for the Floor: Brydon's New Gameshow
At 8pm on ITV1, comedian and presenter Rob Brydon steps into the hosting role for the brand new gameshow 'The Floor'. The programme taps into the current trend for mass-participant contests, seen in shows like 'The 1% Club'. A total of 81 contestants begin the series, each standing on a single tile that represents a specific subject area on a vast grid.
The format is simple but brutal. Two players are selected to go head-to-head in a rapid-fire duel of knowledge. The loser is immediately eliminated from the game, while the victor claims their opponent's square, expanding their territory on the floor. This process continues until one player dominates the entire grid and walks away with the grand prize of £50,000.
Drama, Deceit, and Dating Across the Channels
Following the explosive start to its second series, 'The Night Manager' continues at 9pm on BBC One. Tom Hiddleston returns as the chameleonic Jonathan Pine, who sheds his glasses and upgrades his style as he heads to Medellín. His mission is to infiltrate the world of a wealthy psychopath, but he may have met his match in the seductive arms dealer Teddy, played by Diego Calva.
Over on BBC Two at the same hour, a shocking true story is unpacked in 'The Million Pound Shaman Scam'. This two-part documentary investigates Juliette D’Souza, who posed as a faith healer in the upmarket London district of Hampstead to con the local community out of more than £1 million. The film features journalist Tim Rayment, who first exposed the dark web of spiritual manipulation and South American shamanism back in 2008.
ITV1 offers thriller fans another episode of 'Red Eye' at 9pm. DS Hana Li, played by Jing Lusi, continues her investigation into who is targeting the locked-down US consulate, while an unhelpful ambassador seems preoccupied with a party. Meanwhile, airborne spy chief Delaney, portrayed by Lesley Sharp, receives a crash course in bomb disposal via Zoom.
Further Evening Viewing Highlights
Channel 4 delivers a double dose of intense reality programming. At 9pm, 'Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins' returns with a grim new series opener. The directing staff warn the new recruits, which include Dani Dyer, that "Instagram can't save you now." The celebrities are hooded, transported to north Africa, and subjected to verbal abuse, near-drowning, and forced combat.
Later, at 10pm on Channel 4, the sun-soaked spin-off 'First Dates Beach Club' continues in Spain. Fred Sirieix oversees the romantic fortunes of singles including Joe and Emily, who face a crossroads, and Megan, who shares a drink with a plumber.
For film lovers, BBC Two screens the Amy Winehouse biopic 'Back to Black' at 10pm. The film stars Marisa Abela, who delivers a vocal performance capturing Winehouse's style, alongside a sensitive portrayal of the singer's tragic struggles with addiction and her tumultuous relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil, played by Jack O'Connell.
