Coronation Street is set for a dramatic and explosive reckoning as the sordid secret of child predator Megan Walsh is finally poised to be exposed, with the Driscoll family primed for a furious revenge.
A Web of Deceit Unravels
Viewers have watched in horror as manipulative athletics coach Megan Walsh, played by Beth Nixon, has insidiously groomed schoolboy Will Driscoll, portrayed by Lucas Hodgson Wale, into a sexual relationship. Exploiting her position of authority, Megan has wrapped the vulnerable teen around her little finger, all while hiding her crimes under the noses of his loving family. To further conceal her illicit trysts with a minor, Megan began dating Weatherfield High headmaster Daniel Osborne, a move designed to provide the perfect cover and stoke Will's jealousy.
This calculated decision, however, may prove to be her undoing. On Boxing Day, a furious Will brutally attacked Daniel from behind after witnessing him kiss Megan. The assault was witnessed by Will's grandmother, Maggie Driscoll. While Will managed to lie about his motives, Coronation Street's Executive Producer Kate Brooks hints that the truth cannot stay buried forever.
A Furious Family Seeks Justice
Maggie Driscoll, who was recently revealed in a Christmas flashback to have killed her own husband, is now a pivotal figure in the looming confrontation. "We know that when this awful secret is eventually exposed that it's not going to go down well with Maggie," Brooks teased, adding, "Maggie is a fiery one. I'd keep an eye on Maggie." Her fierce loyalty and proven capacity for extreme action spell terrible news for Megan.
But the vengeful mob won't stop with Maggie. The drama will also draw in fellow schoolboy Sam Blakeman, whose connection to the Barlow family will send shockwaves through the Street. Brooks revealed that Megan will go to great lengths to manipulate Sam into silence, a situation that will be "massively detrimental to Sam's wellbeing."
Furthermore, three of Weatherfield's most formidable women are set to join the fray. Eva Price, as Will's stepmother, Leanne Battersby, as Sam's fiercely protective mother, and her sister Toyah Battersby will be united in fury against the woman they once considered a friend. "These three very strong, very fiery women... Needless to say it'll be quite explosive when this all comes to light," Brooks promised.
The Devastating Aftermath for the Driscolls
At the heart of the storm is Will's father, Ben Driscoll, the Rovers Return landlord who has blindly supported his son's athletic dreams and Megan's coaching. He already came perilously close to discovering the pair in a hotel room where Megan was taking Will's virginity. The eventual revelation will test the family unit to its limits.
"It's a real journey for us to take Ben on as well," explained Brooks. "They all struggle to navigate this. It's a situation none of them ever thought they'd be in... It's just how they manage to overcome these massive hurdles, how they protect their children, how they protect Will, and what lengths they're willing to go to."
With multiple enemies closing in and her web of lies collapsing, the clock is now ticking loudly for Megan Walsh. Justice is coming to Coronation Street, and it promises to be devastatingly explosive.
