Television presenter Chloe Madeley has been left red-faced on multiple occasions due to her father Richard Madeley's longstanding preference for going commando. The 38-year-old awkwardly admitted to 'many' incidents where she has caught an unfortunate eyeful of her naked dad.
An Uncomfortable Podcast Revelation
The father-daughter duo were guests on Romesh Ranganathan's podcast, Parents Evening, when the topic arose. Richard Madeley, 69, was asked by the host if he 'hangs loose', prompting him to explain his personal attire choices. The Good Morning Britain star revealed he abandoned underwear in his early thirties.
'I don't know why, I just suddenly found that boxers, and budgy smugglers, and all of that, they just chafe,' he stated. 'So I got rid of them. And I've never looked back.'
When Romesh turned to Chloe to ask if this was news to her, she confirmed it was not. 'No, no, no. We had many, um, incidents with… You know,' she replied, visibly embarrassed. Going a little red, she elaborated: 'When I would walk into the kitchen late at night, and then immediately just walking straight back out again.'
A History of Candid Confessions
This is not the first time Richard has publicly discussed his commando lifestyle. He initially shocked Good Morning Britain audiences in 2018 during a conversation with co-host Kate Garraway about control pants.
When Kate asked, 'I thought you went commando?' he confirmed: 'I haven't worn boxer shorts for decades. It's much more comfortable.' He then felt compelled to add, 'I do shower regularly.' Viewers at the time joked they 'choked on their cornflakes' at the frank admission.
Family Life and Stepfather Role
The conversation on the podcast also touched on Richard's role as a stepfather. Chloe is the youngest child of Richard and his wife Judy Finnigan, 77. The couple also have a son, Jack, born in 1986.
Richard is also stepdad to Judy's twins, Dan and Tom, from her first marriage to David Henshaw. He recently spoke about this on Matt Willis's podcast, On the Mend, recalling how seriously he took the responsibility when he and Judy, whom he met at Granada TV in 1982, decided to build a life together.
'When it became clear that we were falling for each other... Judy said, "you've got to understand I come in a three pack – it's me and Tom and Dan". And I took that very seriously,' he shared.
Richard explained that he took a two-week solo holiday to Greece to deeply consider whether he was ready for fatherhood. 'I needed to know that I could deliver and that I meant it,' he said. After reflection, he returned committed, describing the then seven-year-old boys as 'absolutely adorable.' The couple married in 1986 and later became famous as the presenting duo on This Morning.
