The Winter Paralympics are set to commence on Friday night, featuring over 600 athletes from 50 countries competing across nine days of intense action. Team GB, with a squad of 25 athletes, aims to draw inspiration from their Olympic counterparts, who recently secured five medals, including three golds, in one of Britain's most successful Winter Olympic campaigns in history. This follows Beijing 2022, where Great Britain won six medals, with Neil Simpson's gold in the visually-impaired super-G marking only the third time Britain has topped the podium in Winter Paralympic history. The daily TV coverage will be fronted by Billy Monger and Ed Jackson. Monger, a former racing driver who lost both legs in a 2017 F4 crash, has become a prominent TV personality, regularly featuring on Channel 4's F1 coverage and holding the record for the fastest Ironman World Championship triathlon completion. The Milano Cortina 2026 Games will feature six sports: Para-Alpine skiing, Para-biathlon, Para-cross-country skiing, Para-ice hockey, Para-snowboard, and wheelchair curling. The Paralympics officially begin with the opening ceremony on Friday, March 6, and conclude with the closing ceremony on Sunday, March 15. Events will be held across multiple locations in northern Italy, with Milan hosting Para-ice hockey, Cortina for wheelchair curling, Para-snowboarding, and Para-Alpine skiing, and Tesero's Cross-country skiing stadium for Para-biathlon and Para-cross-country skiing. A total of 79 gold medals will be awarded throughout the competition.
