BBC Confirms Long-Term Future for The Traitors Franchise
The BBC has officially announced that both The Traitors and Celebrity Traitors will remain on air for the next three years, securing the popular reality game shows until 2030. This landmark deal ensures that the "wink murder" phenomenon will continue to captivate audiences on BBC One and iPlayer, with production company Studio Lambert locked in as the creator.
Ratings Success and Economic Impact
The decision follows unprecedented viewership numbers. Celebrity Traitors, won by Alan Carr in a dominant performance, achieved a peak audience of 15.4 million for its finale, making it the most-watched series of 2025. The fourth series of The Traitors, which aired earlier this year, saw Stephen Libby and Rachel Duffy become the first Traitor duo to split the prize fund, taking home £95,750 after a season full of deception and banishments.
Host Claudia Winkleman, whose success with the show has led to her own upcoming chat show, will continue to guide contestants through the twists and turns at Ardross Castle in Scotland. The BBC's commitment extends the lease on the iconic Scottish castle through 2030.
International Reach and Production Details
The agreement also includes the BBC's continued role in hosting international versions of the show from the United States, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at the BBC, expressed pride in the partnership, stating, "We are proud to remain faithful to The Traitors and The Celebrity Traitors until 2030 and wanted to say a big thank you to the outstanding team at Studio Lambert Scotland for bringing it to screen."
Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert, highlighted the show's global appeal, calling it a "genuine television phenomenon" and expressing excitement for future seasons filled with strategy, suspense, and shocking twists.
Significant Boost to Scottish Economy
Beyond entertainment, the franchise has delivered substantial economic benefits. Since filming began in 2022, The Traitors has generated an estimated £21.8 million for Scotland's economy, underscoring its broader impact beyond television ratings.
The official announcement promises even more dramatic elements in upcoming seasons, including epic missions, deception, banishments, and murders. Celebrity Traitors is set to return in 2026, followed by a new series of The Traitors in 2027, ensuring fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
