David Attenborough's Secret Garden Premieres on BBC One Tonight

The great naturalist David Attenborough returns to our screens with a sparkling new series titled Secret Garden, airing tonight at 6pm on BBC One. While Attenborough made his name documenting gorillas in Rwanda, this series focuses on the amazing wildlife living right under our noses in Britain's own backyards.

Exploring Oxfordshire's Hidden Wonders

In the premiere episode, Attenborough begins his journey in Oxfordshire, where he explores the grounds of a beautiful mill house. Here he discovers scampering voles, talking duck eggs, and the surprisingly brutal world of the mallard. "Careful with your robotic lawnmowers, people!" he humorously warns as he reveals these hidden wonders. The episode promises to be an inevitable delight for nature enthusiasts.

Evening Television Lineup

Following Attenborough's nature exploration, the evening offers diverse programming across multiple channels:

  • The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer (7.40pm, Channel 4) features celebrities including Ambika Mod, Rose Ayling-Ellis, and Alex Brooker attempting to conjure up mini rolls and syrup sponge puddings. Their showstopper challenge involves recreating their best ever looks in choux pastry form.
  • The Other Bennet Sister (8pm, BBC One) continues with Mr. Ryder's "modern" proposal of unmarried bliss giving Mary pause for thought. As mother pressures her to accept and Lizzy attempts to talk her out of it, another invitation arrives - this one to the Lake District.
  • The Capture (9pm, BBC One) enters its third season with Noah Pierson (Killian Scott) slowly shifting from creepy supervillain to wronged potential hero. As he and Carey (Holliday Grainger) flee through underground tunnels, Carey's allies on the surface must take initiative to help.
  • Pilgrimage: The Road to Holy Island (9pm, BBC Two) features a seven-strong group including Hermione Norris, Ashley Banjo, and Patsy Kensit undertaking a spiritual journey through Northumberland toward Lindisfarne. With a mixture of faiths and non-faiths within the group, the program explores what they can learn from each other.
  • The Hunt: Prey vs Predator (9pm, Channel 4) continues its forest-based intrigue as one contender competes as a Predator for the first time, determined to make the most of it. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, viewers can expect a momentous plot twist.

Late Night Film Selection

For late-night viewers, Being There airs at 11.50pm on BBC Two. This Hal Ashby satire features Peter Sellers as Chance, a live-in gardener thrown onto the streets after his employer's death. With his limited knowledge of the world coming entirely from television, Chance is taken in by Eve Rand (Shirley MacLaine), wife of dying businessman Benjamin (Melvyn Douglas). They mistake his simple talk of plants and seasons for brilliant economic metaphors, leading to his undeserved rise in public profile.

Live Sports Coverage

Sports enthusiasts can catch Women's FA Cup Football throughout the day, with Arsenal versus Brighton at 12.30pm on TNT Sports 1, Charlton versus Liverpool at 2pm on TNT Sports 2, and additional matches scheduled for Monday including Chelsea versus Tottenham at 1pm on Channel 4 and Birmingham versus Manchester City at 4.30pm on TNT Sports 1.
