A new Aldi supermarket will open on Farnborough Way in Orpington on Thursday, October 15 at 8am, creating 24 jobs for the local area. The discount retailer will mark the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Olympic bronze medallist Izzy Petter, who will also hand out complimentary bags of fruit and vegetables to the first 30 customers in the queue.
Store details and opening ceremony
Store manager Lisa Whitnall said: "We can't wait to open the doors to the new store in Orpington. It's set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Izzy Petter join us will make it a morning to remember." The Team GB hockey player and Olympic bronze medallist will join staff to cut the ribbon at the new store, which is located at Farnborough Way, Orpington, BR6 7GE.
Izzy Petter added: "I'm so excited to be opening Aldi's new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB." The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
Product range and community partnerships
Aldi said the new branch will give more shoppers access to its range of low-cost groceries, fresh British meat, weekly offers and its Specially Selected products. The store will also feature a Food to Go section and the retailer's popular Special buys middle aisle.
The supermarket is also encouraging local charities and food banks to register with community platform Neighbourly. Organisations that sign up will be able to collect surplus food and perishable goods, including fruit, vegetables and baked items, seven days a week. Any charities interested in partnering with the new store can contact Aldi through Neighbourly by emailing aldi@neighbourly.com.
The opening adds to Aldi's growing presence in the Bromley area, following the recent news of a Northern pub group known for selling £3 pints opening its first London pub in Bromley. The new Orpington store aims to provide local residents with greater access to Aldi's low-cost grocery options.
