An Asian shopping centre touted as 'the biggest in Britain' opened over the weekend after years of anticipation, drawing massive crowds. The Signature Mall, located in Listerhills, Bradford, promises visitors 'exclusive access to Pakistan's most popular retail brands and eateries' from across the country, according to its website.
Grand Opening Draws Massive Crowds
The mall, spanning 50,000 square feet, features 36 retail lots offering luxury clothing, shoes, cosmetics, and jewellery, along with restaurants and entertainment venues. After five years in development, it finally opened its doors on Saturday. Within a day, videos reposted to the company's Instagram story showed crowds flocking to the entrance through a palm-tree-lined car park, past the gates, and around the block.
Opulent Interiors and Premium Brands
The shopping centre is adorned with chandeliers, stone floors, and granite walls. Items imported from across Asia and North Africa have been 'meticulously' selected to create an ambiance that makes shoppers feel 'like you are coming into the Middle East' as soon as they step inside, according to social media posts by the brand.
In addition to its impressive interiors, visitors may encounter eye-watering price tags. Shoppers can expect to spend hundreds or even thousands of pounds on clothes, with some wedding dresses priced at over £2,500.
Dining and Entertainment
Those who work up an appetite can dine in the 10,000 square foot food court, home to nine outlets that can accommodate more than 500 customers. The website also mentions an 'exclusive Michelin star restaurant' within the dining section.
Operating Hours and Future Impact
The boutiques are open Monday to Sunday from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm, with a late night on Saturdays until 10 pm. Restaurants operate from 9 am to 11 pm daily. The shopping centre's social media pages are filled with promotional posts, claiming it will 'revolutionise' Britain's retail landscape.
Planning permission was first sought in 2021 and approved in 2023. Developers assert that the centre will 'draw thousands of visitors and further cement Bradford's reputation as a multicultural retail and hospitality hub,' adding that it represents a 'significant investment in the city and is set to create new employment opportunities.'
A spokesperson commented: 'Signature Mall is more than just a shopping destination; it is a celebration of culture, community, and entrepreneurship. We are proud to bring this exciting new development to Bradford and look forward to welcoming visitors from across the region and beyond.'
