Martin Lewis's Money Saving Expert (MSE) has issued a crucial warning for Tesco Clubcard holders: £17 million worth of vouchers are set to expire on May 31 at 11:59 PM. The supermarket giant urges customers to use or lose their reward points before the deadline. However, MSE provides guidance on checking expiry dates and potentially extending voucher validity, though with caution.
How to Convert Tesco Clubcard Points into Vouchers
Clubcard points can be converted into vouchers for use beyond weekly shopping, including restaurants and theme parks. A minimum of 150 points is required. To claim a voucher, sign into the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app or visit the 'My Clubcard account' page on tesco.com. Select the option to convert points into vouchers, click 'request vouchers', and they will appear in your account instantly.
What Can You Spend Tesco Clubcard Points On?
Exchanging points for Tesco vouchers gives 150 points equal to £1.50 for in-store or filling station use. However, by using Reward Partners, you can double or triple the value. Over 100 partners offer discounts on dining, days out, and more. For instance, at Pizza Express, Zizzi, or Las Iguanas, a £5 voucher becomes £15 spending money.
How to Extend Voucher Expiry Dates – But Be Warned
MSE suggests a method to extend vouchers: use a small portion (e.g., 50p from a £5 voucher) on a Reward Partner purchase or charity donation via the Tesco Clubcard Rewards website. The remaining balance is returned as a new voucher with a two-year expiry. This must be done by May 31 at 11:59 PM. However, Tesco's terms and conditions prohibit redeeming vouchers solely to extend their life, and the company reserves the right to refuse such orders. MSE tested the trick and it worked, but users proceed at their own risk. Note that this process must be repeated for each voucher, making it impractical for many small-value vouchers.
Remember to check your voucher expiry dates and act promptly to avoid losing your rewards. For more money-saving tips, stay tuned to MSE and Metro Money.
