Labour and Wait Opens Third London Store in Covent Garden
Labour and Wait opens new Covent Garden shop

London's retail landscape has welcomed a significant new addition as beloved homeware shop Labour and Wait opens its third location in the heart of Covent Garden.

A New Home in Historic Surroundings

The brand new store officially opened its doors on November 15, 2025, coinciding with the original shop's remarkable 25th anniversary. Situated at 12 Dryden Street, WC2E 9NA, the Covent Garden outpost represents a major expansion for the brand.

Occupying an impressive 3,000 square feet, the new space is three times larger than Labour and Wait's flagship store on Redchurch Street in Shoreditch. The building itself carries significant historical weight, having served various purposes since its construction in the mid-19th century, including time as a chapel, warehouse, and seed merchant.

Staying True to Utilitarian Roots

Inside, the aesthetic perfectly mirrors the practical beauty of the products sold. Vaulted arches, exposed brickwork, and ironwork create an atmosphere that's both industrial and welcoming, reflecting the shop's commitment to honest design.

Co-founder Rachel Wythe-Moran explained the brand's philosophy: 'When we started, we really wanted that feel of a general store, almost like a village shop or a community shop. We like the idea of selling a real diversity of products... all different things mixed together.'

The shop continues its tradition of offering an eclectic range of high-quality, timeless items designed to last a lifetime. Shoppers can find everything from coffee pots and hardware tools to work jackets and quality knitted jumpers.

Celebrating 25 Years of Timeless Design

To mark both the new opening and their silver anniversary, Labour and Wait will host a special celebration across all three of its London locations on Saturday, November 29. The event will offer shoppers the chance to sample goods from the Labour and Wait larder while browsing seasonal items perfect for Christmas shopping.

Co-founder Simon Watkins emphasised their enduring approach: 'We are not here to chase trends. We are here to prove that usefulness and beauty, if made honestly, do not age.'

The expansion into Covent Garden comes as Labour and Wait continues to earn recognition, having secured a place on Time Out's list of the best shops in London. This new chapter promises to bring their unique vision of practical elegance to even more Londoners and visitors alike.
