Onsu Bakery Opens in Soho: Ex-Dorchester Chef's Asian-Inspired Patisserie
Ex-Dorchester Chef Opens Onsu Bakery in Soho

Soho's culinary scene is about to receive a decadent injection of flavour as a highly anticipated new bakery opens its doors this week. Onsu, an Asian-inspired bakehouse and patisserie, will begin welcoming customers from January 15, bringing a unique fusion of Eastern tastes and European technique to the heart of London's West End.

A Pastry Maestro at the Helm

The driving force behind this exciting new venture is acclaimed chef Michael Kwan. A multi-title pastry champion, Kwan's impressive resume includes the prestigious role of executive pastry chef at The Dorchester hotel. His career has also seen him craft sweet creations for the iconic patisserie Ladurée, the contemporary Chinese restaurant Hakkasan, and the world-renowned, three-Michelin-starred The Fat Duck.

This formidable experience is now channelled into Onsu, where Kwan promises to blend classical European baking styles with distinctive Asian flavours, creating a novel destination for food lovers.

A Menu of Indulgent Fusion Creations

Patrons can expect a truly decadent and inventive menu. Highlights are designed to intrigue and delight, featuring items such as rich black truffle toast and perfectly crafted wagyu beef curry buns. For those with a sweet tooth, the salted egg yolk mille feuille and the oolong and milk chocolate tart are set to be standout offerings.

Onsu is also poised to capitalise on major social media trends with its drink selection. It will serve the viral minus 86C coffee, a spectacle that originated in Shanghai. The process involves pouring a hot espresso into a glass frozen at an extreme -86°C, instantly transforming the coffee into a slushy-like consistency. The bakery will also offer ube lattes, matcha, and a range of other coffees.

Launch Details and How to Visit

The bakery will commence its soft launch on January 15. To mark the opening, a special introductory offer will be available: a tray comprising one bread, one pastry, and one coffee for just £4.90. This offer is limited to 500 trays per day, strictly one per person, and will run only while stocks last.

The full, extensive menu will officially launch and be available to all customers from January 18. Onsu is located at 55A Dean Street, Soho, London, W1D 6AG, ready to become a new hotspot for innovative pastries and brews in the capital.
