easyJet launches £42 Gatwick flights to Spain's Reus for wineries & PortAventura
easyJet's new £42 flights from Gatwick to Spanish hotspot

British holidaymakers have a new affordable Spanish destination to explore this summer, as budget airline easyJet announces a fresh route from London Gatwick.

New Route to Catalonia's Hidden Gem

The carrier will connect the UK's second-busiest airport directly to Reus, a historic town in Catalonia, with one-way fares starting from just £42. Services will operate three times per week – on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays – commencing 22 June.

Located on the sun-drenched Costa Dorada, Reus offers a compelling alternative to the often-crowded resorts of Salou and the city bustle of nearby Tarragona. For those wishing to combine a peaceful retreat with metropolitan excitement, Barcelona is approximately a 90-minute drive away.

Architecture, Vermouth and Vineyards

The town holds significant cultural cachet as the birthplace of visionary architect Antoni Gaudí, whose iconic work includes Barcelona's Sagrada Família. Visitors can trace his modernist influences throughout Reus's streets, which are also dotted with vibrant plazas and traditional Catalan eateries.

Reus proudly bears the title of Spain's vermouth capital, ensuring no shortage of aperitivo opportunities. Beyond the town centre, the rolling hills are blanketed with vineyards. Numerous local wineries welcome tourists for tours and tasting sessions, making it a paradise for oenophiles.

Thrills at Spain's Largest Theme Park

A major draw for families and thrill-seekers is the proximity to PortAventura World, the country's biggest theme park. The expansive resort features:

  • Themed lands inspired by global destinations like Mexico and China.
  • Sésamo Aventura, a dedicated area based on Sesame Street for younger children.
  • A vast array of adrenaline-fuelled rides, from high-speed rollercoasters to water-based attractions.
  • An adjacent water park boasting over 16 pools, waterslides, and a wave pool.

In a parallel expansion of its London network, easyJet is also launching a new route to Ibiza from London Southend Airport. Flights to the Balearic island will start from 29 April, with prices from £35.99.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet's UK Country Manager, commented on the expansion: "The addition of these popular Spanish destinations... provides our customers with even more choice and great value when booking their European holidays next summer. As the UK’s largest airline, we’re always aiming to make travel easy."

This move taps into the sustained demand for Spanish holidays among Britons. Official ONS statistics recorded 17.8 million visits from the UK to Spain in 2024, cementing its position as the top overseas destination. However, this popularity has sparked local protests in some areas against over-tourism, leading to measures like Malaga's ban on new holiday lets.
