The community's new year began in horror when a fierce blaze tore through the crowded Le Constellation bar during celebrations. Approximately 40 people lost their lives in the incident, with more than 100 others suffering injuries. The event, which should have been a moment of joy, has become one of Switzerland's deadliest modern disasters.
By Thursday evening, just days after the fire, a profound silence had descended on the resort. Defying freezing temperatures, hundreds of local residents, visitors, and emergency service workers gathered at the scene.
