A significant water supply disruption has affected more than 100 households in Croydon following a burst water main early this morning. The incident, which was first reported at 6am on Tuesday, February 3, has left residents in several postcodes without access to running water.

Thames Water Responds to Emergency

Thames Water engineers have been on site at Watney's Road since the early hours, working diligently to address the issue. Photographs from the scene show workers operating in a flooded grass area as they tackle the burst pipe. The utility company has managed to stop the flow of water and is actively redirecting supplies through alternative routes within the network to minimise the impact on customers.

Progress in Restoring Water Supply

Some progress has been made, with Thames Water successfully restoring water to a number of the postcodes originally affected. However, homes in the CR4, CR7, and SW16 areas continue to experience disruptions to their water supply. The company is prioritising efforts to begin repairs on the damaged section of pipe as soon as it is safe to do so.

Statement from Thames Water

A spokesperson for Thames Water provided an update on the situation, stating: "We are still on site and continuing to make progress. Our teams have been carrying out further valve operations to minimise disruption and begin restoring water to as many customers as possible."

The spokesperson explained that valve operations involve redirecting water through other pipes and sending it via different routes where the network allows. "We are continuing these operations and working through the area to restore supplies to all affected customers as quickly as we can," they added.

Simultaneously, efforts are underway to gain safe access to the damaged pipe section so that repairs can commence promptly. The spokesperson concluded: "We apologise again for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue."
