Boy, 3, dies after falling from hotel window in Cyprus

A three-year-old British boy has died after falling from a fourth-floor hotel window in Chloraka, Paphos, Cyprus. The child was on holiday with his family and was playing with his father, aged 37, when the incident occurred.

Details of the incident

The family had checked into the hotel on Saturday, July 11, 2026. At around 6:40pm local time on Sunday, police received a call after the boy plunged approximately 33 feet onto the main veranda. Paramedics found him unresponsive. According to local news outlet Sigma Live, the toddler slipped from his father's arms while they were waiting for the lift. They had left their room, along with the child's grandfather, to head for dinner on the ground floor.

One side of a double window, approximately 2.5 to 3 meters long and 1.20 meters high, was open next to them. The father reportedly did not realize the window was open.

Medical response and arrest

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the child was fatally injured and could not be saved. He was rushed to Paphos General Hospital but died from his injuries. The father was arrested at 10pm on suspicion of negligence, confirmed Police Director Michalis Nicolaou. He appeared in court at 11am the following day, where the hearing was briefly interrupted when he broke down in tears.

The father appeared without a lawyer, as the family stated they had been unable to arrange legal representation due to the trauma of the incident. A translator explained that he would be remanded for eight days to assist with enquiries, to which he did not object.

Charges and ongoing investigation

The father faces charges of causing death by a reckless, negligent, or dangerous act, neglect of duty as the head of a family, and failing in his responsibility as a person having care of another. An investigation into the circumstances of the boy’s death is ongoing, and the area around the hotel remains cordoned off. The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department will gather a supplementary statement from the father and further statements from witnesses.

The couple also has a five-year-old daughter, who is with them in Cyprus for a holiday scheduled until July 25. The mother’s parents are also part of the holiday party.
