The traditional process for producing hydrogen fluoride involves reacting fluorspar with sulfuric acid at high temperatures, which is energy-intensive and produces significant waste. Befar Group's new technique uses a catalytic process that operates at lower temperatures and pressures, improving yield and reducing byproducts.
According to a company spokesperson, the innovation was developed over five years of research and has been successfully tested at pilot scale. The company plans to build a full-scale production plant by 2025.
