A serious incident occurred in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, early Friday morning when a car struck a group of pedestrians, sending multiple people to the hospital. Emergency services responded to the scene at around 1 a.m. after reports that a red Vauxhall Astra had hit several individuals.
Injuries and Suspect
One person sustained life-threatening injuries, while others were treated for various injuries. The driver, described as a white man, fled the vehicle immediately after the crash and remains at large. Police have launched a search for the suspect.
Police Statement
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow of Nottinghamshire Police stated: 'There is no indication at this stage of any ongoing threat to the wider public. However, we understand the incident will cause concern in the community. Officers will remain at the scene today to carry out further inquiries, speak to local people and offer reassurance.'
Burrow added: 'It is also important anyone with information, or relevant dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage, gets in touch without delay.'
Local MP Responds
Michael Payne, the local MP, urged the public not to speculate on the circumstances while the police investigation continues. 'I have sought reassurances from Nottinghamshire Police regarding ongoing community safety in and around Arnold, and I will continue to liaise closely with police colleagues throughout the weekend,' he said. 'I know this will be upsetting and worrying news for many of us who call Arnold home. I will endeavour to keep the local community informed and updated as the investigation and police work progresses.'
Authorities are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward as they work to piece together the events leading up to the incident. The road remains closed for forensic examination.
