In a hilarious post, Williams compared himself to Paulie Walnuts from The Sopranos, whose silver wings became an unlikely point of comparison. 'I think I reached peak me at the World Cup,' he wrote. 'To have a Nicorette fall out of my mouth during a live interview… and then stick to my forehead… is the most me thing I’ve ever done.' The 52-year-old admitted he had no idea the mint was stuck to his forehead until the following day.
The apology video Williams later posted has racked up over 27 million views, while the entire 'MintGate' saga has reached a staggering 51 million people. Rather than cringe at the attention, Williams said he’s been trying not to read too many comments, which has allowed him to find the whole thing genuinely funny. Williams also took aim at the rumours that followed the viral clip, mocking online claims that he was under the influence during the interview.
