Jessie J has revealed that she and partner Chanan Safir Colman ended their romantic relationship 'a long time ago' following what she described as a 'sad and difficult situation'. The 38-year-old singer shared the news on Instagram, posting a reel of herself with Chanan and their son Sky as the song Here Comes The Sun played in the background.
Relationship timeline
The musician and the Denmark-born basketballer were first linked in 2021, though it remains unclear how they met. They went public with their romance in 2023, just weeks after Jessie suffered a miscarriage. She described Chanan as a 'beam of light' and 'the calm to my crazy'. The couple welcomed their son Sky in May 2023.
In her Instagram post, Jessie wrote: 'Chanan and I decided to end our romantic relationship some time ago, it has been a sad and difficult situation, but we have been focused on navigating the change privately and positively for a healthy and happy co parenting environment for our son, and ourselves.' She added that being in the public eye made it necessary to share the truth before 'rumours circulate or a false narrative is written.'
Co-parenting focus
Jessie emphasised that they will 'always continue supporting each other with love, respect and care as friends and most importantly being Skys Mum and Dad.' She noted that if fans see them together as a family or posting each other on social media, it is because they are 'raising and loving Sky together, supported with a positive friendship.' The singer, who has 13.9 million followers, disabled comments on the post.
Jessie was previously in a long-term relationship with actor Channing Tatum, dating on and off for around two years starting in October 2018. She and Chanan dated for approximately five years. In 2025, Jessie told People magazine that they were in no rush to get married, saying, 'We talk about it all the time, and we laugh about it all the time, and I’m sure we will, but we’re not in any rush.' She added that she would prefer to marry when Sky is old enough to understand and be part of the celebration.
Support during health struggles
Chanan was by Jessie's side when she underwent treatment for breast cancer, an 'early stage' diagnosis she made public to show solidarity with others. She had surgery in June 2025, joking it was the 'most dramatic way' to get a boob job. During that period, Chanan and Sky visited her in hospital, and Jessie expressed gratitude for her family's support.
