Customers of three major British banks — Barclays, Halifax, and Lloyds — reported widespread problems accessing their accounts and making transfers on July 27, 2026. Downdetector data indicated hundreds of reports of issues beginning at around midday.
Customers report error messages and jammed helplines
One individual reported an error message when trying to send funds from a Lloyds credit card to a current account, with helplines jammed. A customer posted: “Is anyone else having any issues with Lloyds? I can’t get money from the ATM nor make any bank transfers to pay etc. My partner is also having the same issues with her Lloyds account. Their helpline has a 40-minute delay – so something is definitely not right.”
Banks investigate Faster Payments issue
A Lloyds representative replied: “We’re investigating an issue affecting Faster Payments, which may cause delays. If you’ve already made a payment, please don’t send it again. Check it has gone through first to avoid duplicate payments.” A Halifax customer reported: “What is going on? I tried to transfer some money and it kept saying error unable to complete, I tried a few times and got the same message, now it’s done multiple transfers?” A Halifax representative responded to assist.
The outages affected thousands of users, with many unable to access online banking or use ATMs. This is a developing story.
