BA launches Gatwick flights to Santa's hometown Rovaniemi

British Airways has announced a new direct service from London Gatwick to Rovaniemi, Finland, the official hometown of Santa Claus. The flights will operate twice weekly from December 4 through to January 4, with return fares starting from £317.60 per person.

Route details and timing

The service will run from December 4, allowing travellers to depart on that date and return on December 11. Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland, sits on the Arctic Circle and is known for Santa Claus Village, where visitors can meet Santa and send letters from the Santa Claus Main Post Office. The region also offers wildlife adventures such as husky and reindeer sledge safaris.

Northern Lights viewing

The flights coincide with the peak viewing period for the Northern Lights, making Rovaniemi an ideal destination for aurora enthusiasts. Karen Hilton, managing director of BA Euroflyer and Gatwick Ground Services, said: "Rovaniemi, the home of Santa Claus, is the perfect destination for a festive getaway and a fantastic addition to our Gatwick network, building on the success of our Ivalo route. Whether customers are hoping to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, meet Santa Claus or experience the magic of Lapland, we're delighted to offer even more choice across our network."
