Arsenal eye Spain World Cup stars Torres and Williams

Arsenal have reportedly discussed a move for Spain's World Cup heroes Ferran Torres and Nico Williams. La Roja won their second World Cup last Sunday in New Jersey after beating Argentina, with Torres replicating Andres Iniesta's heroics from 2010 with an extra-time winning goal.

Ferran Torres' Contract Situation

The 26-year-old will now enjoy a well-deserved summer break, but his club future remains a hot topic. The Barcelona forward has entered the final year of his contract at the Camp Nou, having joined the Catalan giants from Manchester City in a £55 million deal in 2021. After five stellar years, a move this summer appears likely, with Barcelona open to selling the forward while they still can. His deal also includes a clause that requires Barcelona to pay City another fee of around £6-7 million if he were to extend his contract. The Spanish champions are said to be reluctant to offer Torres a contract extension because of that arrangement.

Interest from Paris Saint-Germain

Torres, who scored 21 goals for Barcelona last season, is unlikely to have any shortage of suitors, with Paris Saint-Germain among his admirers. With Goncalo Ramos leaving the French capital to join Ruben Amorim at AC Milan, the European champions are looking to add to their squad, with Torres on a shortlist of three players under consideration. While there has been contact between the club and player, there is no agreement as of yet.

Arsenal's Interest in Torres and Williams

Torres is a versatile forward capable of leading the line and taking up a role out wide, potentially fitting the bill for the sort of addition Mikel Arteta would like to make in north London. While there are no reports of any contact at this stage, the Daily Mail reports Torres 'has been suggested' at the Premier League champions – if the price is right. Athletic Bilbao winger Williams, who provided the assist for Torres' stunning winner, is also under consideration. Arsenal are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old and explored a move last summer before he signed a new contract at San Mames.

Williams' Agent Advises Patience

Williams will be in no rush to make decisions on his future. 'Now, it is calm,' Williams' agent, Félix Tainta, said. 'We need to be relaxed, let him enjoy himself, let him disconnect from football. What's meant to be will be.'

Arsenal's Transfer Activity

Arsenal have signed Greek winger Christos Tzolis, who comes in as a replacement for Leandro Trossard. But after missing out on Morgan Rogers, who this week joined Chelsea, more recruitment in attack is expected, with Julian Alvarez and Bradley Barcola among their high-profile targets.
