Three men have been arrested following a knife fight that forced the closure of Streatham Common station in Lambeth and led to the cancellation of several trains. Police were called to the Zone 3 station shortly after 11:25 a.m. on May 17 following reports of an altercation.
Injuries and Arrests
Two men in their 20s sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment but have since been discharged. They are now in police custody on suspicion of affray. A third man, aged in his 50s, has also been detained on suspicion of actual bodily harm and possession of a bladed article. He remains in police custody.
Ongoing Investigation
The British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist with ongoing inquiries. Officers closed Streatham Common station to the public for over an hour while they secured the scene.
Although the station has since reopened, Thameslink and Southern services in Central and South London were affected for much of the afternoon. The closure, combined with planned engineering works, blocked some lines between East Croydon and Clapham Junction, impacting trains to and from Blackfriars.
Appeal for Information
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 202 of 17 May.
