The Suffragette line on the London Overground, connecting Gospel Oak to Barking, will face significant weekend disruption in 2027 due to replacement works on four 130-year-old bridges in the Forest Gate area. Network Rail announced that the bridges on Talbot Road, Strode Road, Stracey Road, and Latimer Road will be replaced, with work starting on September 1, 2027, for the Talbot Road and Stracey Road bridges, followed by Strode Road and Latimer Road on September 28. The project is expected to be completed by late summer 2027.
Bridge Replacement Details
The four bridges carry the Suffragette line between Leytonstone High Road and Woodgrange Park stations. During the works, road and pavement closures below the bridges will be in place, along with some smaller road closures in the area for short periods in 2026. Network Rail stated that the closures will affect both Overground users and drivers.
Impact on Commuters
The disruption is limited to weekends, minimizing the impact on daily commuters. Joe Kennedy, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia, said: “We’re really sorry for the disruption and we’ll be working very closely with residents and businesses to keep the impact to a minimum while we get the job done.” The new bridges are expected to last until 2150, preventing unplanned future disruptions.
