Tragic Fatality at Norwood Junction Station After Person Struck by Train
A person has died after being hit by a train at Norwood Junction station in Croydon on Monday night, February 23. Emergency crews were called to the station in the South Norwood area at approximately 8:45pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Emergency Response and Investigation
British Transport Police officers responded to the scene alongside paramedics. Sadly, one individual was pronounced dead at the location. The age and gender of the deceased have not been publicly disclosed at this time.
The British Transport Police have confirmed that the tragic incident is not being treated as suspicious. A coroner's file is now being prepared in advance of an official inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Service Disruptions and Restoration
Southern and Thameslink rail services operating between East Croydon and London Bridge were suspended for several hours while police and emergency medical teams conducted their work at the station. The railway lines resumed their scheduled timetable at around 12:30am following the completion of initial investigations.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police stated: "Officers were called at around 8:45pm on Monday, February 23 to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Norwood Junction railway station. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
The London Ambulance Service has been contacted for additional information regarding their response to this tragic incident.
