LNER's Transformed First-Class Lounge Opens at King's Cross Station
London North Eastern Railway has officially reopened its first-class lounge at London's King's Cross Station following an extensive refurbishment project. The newly enhanced space, which opened to the public on March 31, 2026, represents a significant upgrade in passenger amenities at what is frequently regarded as one of the United Kingdom's premier railway stations.
Exclusive Access with Complimentary Refreshments
The refurbished lounge now accommodates up to 122 guests who enjoy complimentary food and beverages throughout their visit. Morning offerings include a selection of pastries, while afternoon service features muffins, biscuits, and crisps. Tea, coffee, and fruit juices remain available continuously throughout operating hours.
Access to these amenities comes with specific requirements: The lounge is exclusively available to passengers holding valid same-day LNER first-class tickets, first-class tickets for connecting LNER trains, or upgraded first-class tickets on LNER services. Standard ticket holders cannot purchase entry separately, maintaining the lounge's exclusive nature.
Ticket pricing illustrates the premium nature of first-class travel. For popular routes from London to Leeds, standard tickets can start as low as £24, while first-class options may reach £125. The London to Edinburgh route shows similar disparity, with standard tickets averaging £77 compared to approximately £150 for first-class accommodations.
Design and Functional Enhancements
The renovation has fundamentally transformed the lounge's layout and aesthetic. Previously centered around a refreshment area, the space now features banquette seating with booths and tables along the front wall, creating a more open and functional environment.
Key design elements include:
- Six private booths equipped with charging ports, work desks, and elegant mood lighting
- Deep red walls with paisley wallpaper and brass features creating an Art Deco ambiance
- Plush earth-tone furniture providing a calming atmosphere distinct from the main concourse
- Vintage-inspired posters showcasing LNER routes and destinations
- Indoor plants and greenery throughout the space
- Newly upgraded restroom facilities with maximalist wallpaper and brown stone sinks
Practical Improvements and Accessibility Features
Beyond aesthetic enhancements, the refurbishment introduced numerous practical upgrades:
- Additional luggage and pushchair storage areas
- Customer information screens displaying departure details and platform numbers
- British Sign Language interpretation on information displays
- Redesigned reception area for improved customer welcome
