More than sixty firefighters responded to the incident, with nine fire appliances and specialist resources deployed at the height of the emergency. All services to and from Glasgow Central Station are currently suspended, with passengers advised to follow alternative travel arrangements provided by train operators. ScotRail reported that fifteen of its thirty-six routes have been disrupted, with no trains calling at Glasgow Central.

Several businesses within the affected building have been completely destroyed, including Sexy Coffee shop and Willow Hair Salon. Paul Sweeney, Labour MSP for Glasgow, described the damage as "looking like something out of the Blitz" and expressed concerns about the building's viability.
