Famous Metro Cat George Stolen from Train Station by Woman with Shopping Bag
The beloved station cat known for lying on copies of Metro newspaper each morning has been stolen from his perch at West Wickham station. George the cat, who became famous for warming up the newspapers, was snatched by a woman who stuffed him into her shopping bag and carried him onto a train.
Details of the Abduction
The incident occurred around 2pm on Thursday when the woman took George from West Wickham station. She was seen carrying him onto a train and then off at Elmer's End station a few minutes later. Witnesses reported that she may have boarded the 289 bus towards West Croydon afterward.
When questioned about carrying the cat on the bus, the woman reportedly told someone, 'This is George. I'm homeless, so we're moving.' George has been missing for three days, causing concern among station staff and regular commuters who had grown fond of the feline.
Owner's Appeal for Information
George belongs to Steven Fletcher, a member of Metro's commercial team, who is desperately seeking his pet's return. 'We just want George back,' Steven said. 'Please let us know if you have any information about either the abduction or who this woman is.'
Steven suggested that people might have seen George being carried or noticed a neighbor with a cat that doesn't belong to them. 'He may even be at the window looking out, given his love of the outdoors,' he added.
Description of the Suspect
The woman is known to staff at both West Wickham and Elmer's End stations due to previous incidents involving mental health issues. She has reportedly caused problems at the stations before, including messing with books in waiting rooms.
She is described as:
- White
- Early to mid-20s
- Slim build
- Dark hair
- Often wears thick-rimmed glasses
