Chemical Attack Leaves Rail Worker with Severe Burns at Blackfriars Station
British Transport Police are still searching for a man responsible for a shocking chemical attack on a rail worker at Blackfriars station in London. The incident, which occurred nearly a year ago, left the victim with serious injuries requiring hospital treatment.
Details of the Violent Assault
The attack took place on May 17, 2025, at approximately 6pm. The victim was performing his duties at the gate line when four men disembarked from a train arriving from Sevenoaks. The group forcefully pushed through the ticket barriers, prompting intervention from rail staff.
One of the men was stopped by employees while the others initially fled the scene. However, the detained individual quickly became verbally abusive, prompting his three companions to return to the barriers. At this point, one of the men produced a Lucozade Sport bottle from his jacket and sprayed a clear liquid directly into the victim's face.
Severe Injuries and Immediate Aftermath
The victim experienced immediate, intense pain in his eyes and suffered temporary vision loss. Emergency services rushed him to a nearby hospital where medical professionals treated him for chemical burns affecting both his face and eyes.
All four suspects fled Blackfriars station immediately following the assault. British Transport Police have released a CCTV image showing the primary suspect as a white male with short brown hair, wearing a distinctive bright blue hoodie at the time of the attack.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Detective Constable Victoria Callaghan of the British Transport Police stated: "We believe the man in the CCTV footage could assist our ongoing enquiries into this horrific attack on a man simply doing his job."
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses can text the suspect's name to 61016, quoting reference number 529 of 17 May 2025. Alternatively, information can be provided by calling 0800 40 50 40 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
