Thames Water outage hits 18 South London postcodes

More than a dozen South London postcodes have been hit by a sudden water outage this morning, according to Thames Water. The utilities company warned that eighteen postcodes across the south of the capital were at risk of no water or low pressure on Monday, September 28.

Specialist teams are on the way to investigate the cause of this outage, adding they want to "restore your water supply as soon as possible". The issue was first reported at 6.45am this morning, with additional updates expected from Thames Water later this morning. Currently, the cause of the outage has not yet been reported; however, MyLondon will bring you the latest updates as they arrive.

Affected postcodes and initial response

The affected postcodes are: CR4, KT1, KT10, KT12, KT2, KT3, KT5, KT6, KT7, KT8, SM4, SW16, SW17, SW18, SW19, SW20, TW10, TW16. These cover areas in Merton, Kingston upon Thames, Richmond upon Thames, Sutton, and Wandsworth, among others.

Thames Water issued an update at 9:12am, stating: "We're sorry if your tap water isn't running at the moment. We're aware of an issue in the area that's affecting the customers in KT, SW and TW postal code areas and some customers in CR4 & SM4 areas." The spokesperson added: "Our specialist team is the way to investigate and work to restore your water supply as soon as possible."

MP urges urgency and asks for support arrangements

Monica Harding MP for Esher and Walton issued a statement at 9:13am, saying: "To my understanding, this is a major burst affecting a wide area - including SW postcodes. I'm in contact with Thames Water and pressing them to treat this with the utmost urgency."

Harding added: "I've also asked what arrangements they are putting in place so residents can access water while repairs are under way. I'll continue to share further information as soon as I receive it."

Thames Water promises next update and offers support

Thames Water acknowledged the disruption, stating: "We know how disruptive it is if you lose your water supply, so we'll work hard to get things back to normal as soon as we can." The company also highlighted its free Priority Services Register, saying: "If you or someone you know needs a little extra support, our free Priority Services Register can help us to understand your situation so we can take it into account as best we can."
