London Tube Strikes May 2026: Elizabeth Line Impact and Full Schedule
London Tube Strikes May 2026: Elizabeth Line Impact

London is bracing for another round of Tube strikes, with industrial action scheduled from May 19 to May 22, 2026. Following four days of walkouts in April, the RMT union has called two 24-hour strikes spanning four days, escalating the dispute with Transport for London (TfL) over working conditions.

Why Are the Strikes Happening?

The core issue is the proposed 'compressed four-day working week' for Tube drivers. The RMT claims that London Underground management aims to squeeze the hours of a standard working week into just four days, raising concerns about shift lengths, fatigue, and safety. The union argues that this arrangement could compromise both driver wellbeing and passenger safety.

  • May 21-22 (12:00 to 11:59 the next day)
  • June 16-17 (12:00 to 11:59 the next day)
  • June 18-19 (12:00 to 11:59 the next day)

Previous strikes took place on April 21-22 and April 23-24.

Will the Elizabeth Line Be Affected?

The Elizabeth Line will not be directly impacted by the strike action. Its staff are not part of the RMT walkouts, so services on the purple line are expected to run as normal. However, passengers should anticipate knock-on effects: the Elizabeth Line is likely to be significantly busier than usual during strike hours as commuters seek alternatives. Additionally, some stations may have reduced interchange access, potentially causing delays.

Which Tube Lines Are Affected?

TfL advises that a reduced service will operate on all London Underground lines. The following services will face particular disruption:

  • No trains on the Piccadilly and Circle lines
  • No service on the Metropolitan line between Baker Street and Aldgate
  • No trains on the Central line between White City and Liverpool Street

Previous Industrial Action on the Elizabeth Line

The Elizabeth Line has faced strike threats in the past. In February and March 2025, potential walkouts were called off at the last minute. Prior to that, control room staff on the line staged a strike on New Year's Eve 2024.

As London navigates these disruptions, passengers are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternative modes such as buses, trams, e-bikes, National Rail, or the Overground.
