Plans for London Colosseum: New 25,000-Seat Arena in Stratford
London Colosseum: New 25,000-Seat Arena Planned in Stratford

Ambitious plans have been unveiled for a massive new entertainment venue in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The proposed London Colosseum, with a capacity of up to 25,000 people, would surpass the O2 Arena and Manchester’s Co-op Live to become the largest indoor arena in the UK.

Multi-Purpose Venue for Sports and Entertainment

Beyond hosting live music performances, the arena is designed to accommodate major sports events, including the NBA’s planned European competition, international esports tournaments, UFC events, and world championship boxing. It remains unclear whether these plans are directly linked to proposals for a new basketball arena backed by Mayor Sadiq Khan and the London Lions basketball team.

Integrated Tower and Academy

The development also includes a multifunctional tower housing a hotel, residences, and community facilities, aiming to extend the site’s use beyond events and integrate it into the city’s daily life. Additionally, a second building will feature two smaller 3,000-seat venues, forming the London Colosseum Academy—a sports and entertainment campus with a basketball school, boxing gym, and esports training centre.

The project is being developed by Jericho Estates, Peacock Gym, Torch Sports, and architects Chybik + Kristof. Ondrej Chybik of Chybik + Kristof stated: “The London Colosseum’s bowl design allows the arena floor to effortlessly adapt to accommodate 18,000 and up to 25,000 spectators across diverse sporting and entertainment events. By prioritising genuine multi-functionality, the arena and its surrounding public spaces are built to evolve, actively combating the inefficiency of traditional, single-use stadiums.”

Early Planning Stages

Planning is still in the early stages, so further details are limited. If realised, the London Colosseum would build upon Stratford’s growing cluster of major cultural venues, which recently welcomed Sadler’s Wells East, the V&A East Storehouse, and V&A East Museum. Soon, a £15 million music venue from the team behind Brixton’s Phonox and Camden’s Jazz Café will also open. Additionally, the people behind Printworks and Drumsheds have announced a new riverside venue in southeast London, and a 3,800-capacity music venue is opening in west London this year.
